Curriculum & Instruction
The Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction is responsible for administering the instructional program of the district, updating curriculum and working with teachers, principals and instructional specialists to provide a strong, comprehensive educational program. Support areas include Elementary and Secondary Principals, Instructional Specialists, Special Education, Bilingual Programs, Gifted & Talented Education, Early Childhood and Special Programs.

Elementary Education includes Pre-K through 6th grade and Secondary Education includes 7th through 12th grade.
Curriculum Overview
Curriculum encompasses what we want students to know and be able to do after a specific course of study. The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) provide the roadmap for Texas schools and teachers charged with the responsibility of guiding students on their personal learning journey in grades K-12.

Students are assessed on the TEKS and Student Expectations at checkpoints in grades 3-11 by taking tests referred to as the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness  (STAAR). More information about the TEKS and STAAR is available at http://www.tea.state.tx.us/
Bilingual Education & English as a Second Language
Texas City ISD provides bilingual education and has a English as a Second Language Program for those students who do not speak English as their first language.
Gifted & Talented Education

About the Program

Texas City ISD provides a gifted and talented program for students who meet specific identification criteria. This program challenges students who perform or show potential to perform at remarkably high levels of accomplishment in the academic areas of mathematics, language arts, science and social studies.

The process of identifying students for the GT program begins each October and concludes in February for Kindergarten nominees and May for all other nominees. Kindergarten students will begin services in the spring of their kindergarten year. All other identified students will be placed into the GT program starting in the fall of the following school year.

Information is collected for each nominated student from multiple sources. Both objective and subjective assessments are used to determine individual academic eligibility. Measures that will most likely elicit the strongest student performance and ensure the fair assessment of students with special needs will be used.
